The program has been developed by two highly accomplished women solo sailors...circumnavigator/author Pat Henry and MiniTransat 2001 veteran Sidonie Meraud, who not only sailed the race but also built the boat she used. Course presentations are built on their unique experiences and insights and focused on demystifying the experience of sailing, navigating, and managing a boat---safely, confidently, and quietly. They believe that success is found in passion and commitment as much as experience. Direction and support for Coming About is being provided by Preston Hollander, off-shore veteran sailor and owner of Rowayton Group LLC, an investment management company. Coming About has been created for women who would like to bareboat charter, or who have acquired a boat they want to be able to sail on their own, or for those who are planning a short-handed off shore cruise and want the skills to feel comfortable in the face of responsibility. Operations for the program are based at the new Banderas Bay Yacht Club (Marina Vallarta)—founded in 2003 by Hollander and Alfonso Aguilar, a well-known leader in Mexican sailing circles . The boater-friendly waters of Banderas Bay have welcomed West Coast sailors for more than fifty years. Today there are two large marinas on the bay, two yacht clubs, and a fully-equipped modern boatyard. With close to 150 square miles of protected bay water, afternoon practice sessions will take place in near perfect sailing conditions under clear skies and against a backdrop of jungle covered mountains. Fifteen-knot afternoon breezes provide end-of-the-day spinnaker runs often accompanied by visiting whales--down for the winter from Alaskan waters. The final live-aboard three-day cruise takes participants to pocket beaches and small villages along the north and south shorelines. For further information please call 203-354-8161
